Have You Seen This Man?

Jordan Myers, Associate Editor-in-Chief

He’s only known by the name This Man.  He comforts and counsels, sometimes never says a word in dreams, attempts to murder people, and has been increasingly prevalent in more and more people’s dreams since 2006, when a psychiatrist drew him.

In January 2006, a well-respected psychiatrist who wishes to remain anonymous, was counseling a female patient who kept seeing an unfamiliar man in her dreams, who on more than one occasion gave her advice on her personal life. The patient swore she had never met or even seen the man in her life. The psychiatrist decided to attempt drawing the man and what she came up with was exactly who her patient had seen in her dreams. The sketch then remained on her desk until another patient unwittingly saw it and immediately told his doctor that he recognized the man as a frequent presence in his dreams.

The psychiatrist then decided to send the portrait to some of his colleagues who also had patients with reoccurring dreams. Within a few months, four patients recognized the man in their dreams. All of the patients refer to him as THIS MAN.

Ever since that January of 2006, hundreds of websites and pages have since been created, dedicated just to posting this man and sharing his involvement in people’s dreams with others.

A dream from the Philippines:

“I’ve dreamt of this man once back when I was staying at my former boarding house. I was drunk at that time, but I could remember every bit of detail in that dream. I dreamt about waking up in a hospital bed. I was shocked because suddenly I saw this man – he had that creepy look. He dragged me with the chains on my neck on the floor, everything around was dark, the light was only in our path, then I suddenly appeared to be back on a hospital bed. Tied to the bed I couldn’t move. I was shocked because I was pregnant which, in reality, I’m not. It was still dark all around all I could see was the bed and my body tied up. Then this man approached. It was really scary because in bed I was slowly dying. I could hear only white noise in my ears and my heartbeat slowly fading. It was really eerie. He was staring at me while I was dying. Even though it was only a dream I felt the pain of dying. Guys, it was so scary I cried so hard when I woke up. I had difficulty breathing. Now I can’t sleep with the lights turned off…”

Many theories have been compiled to explain his recurrent presence, here are two, according to ThisMan.org:

RELIGIOUS THEORY
According to this theory, this man is the image of the Creator, that is to say, one of the forms in which God manifests himself today. This is the reason why his indications and the words he utters during the dreams should be decidedly followed by the dreamers.

DREAM SURFER THEORY
It is the most interesting theory and the one that has the greatest implications, but it has also the lowest scientific credibility. According to this theory, this man is a real person, who can enter people’s dreams by means of specific psychological skills. Some believe that in real life this man looks like the man in the dreams. Others think that the man in the dreams looks completely different from his real-life counterpart. Some people seem to believe that behind this man there is a mental conditioning plan developed by a major corporation.
