Drake Gets Booed Off Stage Early at Camp Flog Gnaw
November 24, 2019
Camp Flog Gnaw is an annual event that combines the rides, food, and games of a carnival, and a music festival into one weekend. It was founded by artist Tyler, the Creator and has been a yearly event since 2012. At this year’s Camp Flog Gnaw, a special unknown artist was booked as the last performance of the festival. When the time came however, fans were disappointed with who had stepped on stage…
Camp Flog Gnaw’s performing artists are curated heavily by Tyler, the Creator and reflect his musical interests and inspirations for that year. Some of the past headliner artists include Post Malone, Chance the Rapper, Lil Wayne, Lana Del Ray, and other big name artists Tyler enjoyed at that time. With a mystery slot being announced this year, many fans speculated this could be Tyler’s close friend, Frank Ocean. This was the biggest rumor relating to this surprise performer, and as the time inched closer, fans began chanting “We want Frank, we want Frank.”
Tyler came out before the performance and began to thank the fans for their support, and brought out rapper A$AP Rocky, and Lil Uzi Vert to play a few songs before Drake came out to a very mixed response from the crowd of almost 3,000. He only got to play a few songs before the ridicule drove him off stage, telling fans “I’m here for you tonight and if you want me to keep going, I’ll keep going.” This was met with boos and disapproval, leading Drake to end his set early and walk off the stage.
Just like that, the festival was over with an unfinished closing act and many disappointed fans leaving the festival. The next day, Tyler went to Twitter to express his disapproval, saying, “I thought bringing out one of the biggest artists on the planet to a music festival was fire!” and that, “Some created a narrative in their head and acted out when it didn’t come true.” Drake posted on Instagram, saying, “Plot twist…just signed a 10 year residency at Camp Flog Gnaw sorry kids see you EVERY SINGLE YEAR till you are 30.”
