Kim Kardashian West’s Health Battle
September 10, 2019
In 2010, Kim Kardashian West was diagnosed with Psoriasis, a condition in which skin cells build up and form scales as well as itchy, dry patches, when her mother Kris Jenner, who also has the skin disease, noticed the rash and took her to get tested.
Ever since she was diagnosed, she has done her best to control her flare-ups and even came out with her own brand of body foundation to help cover-up the rash and the discoloration it leaves.
Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ season seventeen preview revealed, for the first time, Kim’s struggle with swollen and painful joints in her hands. Kim speculated that she may have Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Kim then went to a Rheumatologist specializing in autoimmune diseases, Dr. Daniel Wallace, and was tested for antibodies found in Rheumatoid Arthritis and Lupus.
“It’s so scary,” she said. “So, I have to go to the doctor and see what’s going on because I can’t live like this.”
Rheumatoid arthritis also is an autoimmune disorder that affects the lining of a person’s joints and can lead to painful swelling, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Mayo Clinic also states that Lupus is a systemic autoimmune disease that occurs when the body’s immune system attacks its tissues and organs, causing inflammation that can affect different body systems.
Her doctor called with the results and said that she had tested positive for both Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis antibodies. He advised her that false positives are possible, especially with autoimmune diseases as they are hard to put a finger on due to their constant fluctuation in blood levels.
In the past, Kim has been open with her fans about her health struggles including her Psoriasis and her difficult pregnancies. It just goes to show that even the richest or the most beautiful can have their share of problems that money cannot just fix.
UPDATE: Kim has been diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis, a form of arthritis that affects some people who have the skin condition psoriasis.
