How to Cope With Senioritis

Azalia Munoz, Senior Spotlight Editor

Some of us went to preschool and napped while thinking about how cool it is to be around other people who are like us. Then we started kindergarten then it’s like… no napping + learning to write our names. I don’t think anyone at the age of 5 thought about what our lives would be 11 years later. Students all across the world have been at school for most of their lives, some of us can’t even remember a time when we weren’t attending school. It is arguably THE most important aspect of our lives. If you do poorly in school, then you’re limited to what kind of job you can get. The day we step in the doors of kindergarten, we are on a fast track to high school graduation. Throughout this time of 12 years we have cried many tears, stressed about hundreds of projects, wrote hundreds of papers, memorized countless formulas all in the hopes of getting good grades and a piece of paper.

Although one thing we never prepared for is the infamous ‘senioritis.’ The absolute worst thing that can happen to already tired + miserable seniors. Some people think that it’s just a myth, but IT’S THE REALEST THING EVER. Every single senior has felt this the:

  • “I can finish that essay later.”
  • “We’re not even doing anything today.”
  • “If I stay home then I can have an extra day to finish homework.”

Senioritis: a supposed affliction of students in their final year of high school or college, characterized by a decline in motivation or performance.

Symptoms:

  • Lower grades
  • Not completing assignments
  • Cutting Class
  • Laziness
  • Lack of motivation
  • Finding it difficult to get out of bed in the morning

The first step is to realize that everyone is also going through it, and it’s 100000% okay to feel the stress of senioritis. Although there is no cure, and it only gets worse, we can all think of one thing when we feel like doing nothing.

We spent 12 years doing this, don’t let senioritis stop you from getting that diploma!!!
