Disney’s Twist on Netflix, The Next Online Streaming Competitor
March 4, 2019
So… if you’re like me and loved the Marvel/Netflix combo, you were pretty disappointed to hear that the shows Luke Cage, The Defenders, Daredevil, The Punisher, and Jessica Jones were all cancelled. The Punisher, being one of my favorite shows, definitely hit the hardest when I heard it was cancelled.
But there is hope! Disney is planning on making their own video streaming service similar to Netflix.
Now you’re probably thinking, why would I want to spend money on that ? Well Disney either owns or invests in multiple companies. According to TitleMax, this is how much Disney owns in some major companies: ABC, ESPN (80% stake), Touchstone Pictures, Marvel, Lucasfilm, A&E (50% equity holding with Hearst Corporation), The History Channel (50% equity holding with Hearst Corporation), Lifetime (50% equity holding with Hearst Corporation), Pixar, Hollywood, Records, Vice Media (10% stake), and Core Publishing.”
Documentaries, popular series, Disney movies, Marvel movies, and other entertainment would be available. It wouldn’t be a kid-based type of entertainment.
“Disney+” will hopefully be available late 2019 with more information about this platform coming out this April. As Disney ends their contract with Netflix and soon will take over Hulu, Disney is hoping to become a big competitor in the streaming service. The price is said to cost about as much as its other competitors ranging from $10-15 a month.
The only reason I’m really happy about the streaming service is that it would bring back all the Marvel shows, including The Punisher. I mean hey, who doesn’t like getting to see Jon Bernthal act? Another reason I’m excited for this service is because it would bring more variety to what there already is on the streaming services now. Also hit movies would be debuted on there like the upcoming “Captain Marvel” movie. Disney may really give everyone a run for their money.
