Hayden ‘The Track’ Estrella
February 15, 2019
Remember when Dora The Explorer would ask “Can you find the Estrella?” Well look no further because we’ve found him!
Hayden, Class of 2019, has been running track all four years of high school. “I have improved over the years a lot physically and mentally, and also my leadership skills have gotten better. In my opinion the physical part is far easier than the mental aspect,” he remarks.
Some of the biggest influences in Hayden’s athletic choices are his brother and father. “My dad did track, and so did my brother, so naturally I would choose track.”
Even though he likes running, his favorite thing to do on the weekends is watch Netflix. He claims it’s “Fantastic, along with the actual movie theaters.” His biggest fear is a full body paralysis, which once you think about is pretty scary.
Hayden’s Track events are the 800, 1600, and 3200. His best times are (2:09 *relay split* for 800 m, 4:58 for 1600 m, and 11:19 *unofficial* for 3200 m) That’s definitely a lot of running. He makes sure to eat a lot of protein. “I try to cut back on soda and sugar, but that’s a year round thing. My diet is pretty healthy though since I’m vegetarian.” Being vegetarian and getting your protein is pretty difficult, but Hayden makes it work by eating plenty of beans, eggs, cheese, soy products, and protein bars. According to Hayden you “never want to run on a full stomach, a lot of people even tell you to “run hungry.” Hayden runs on the weekends (and if that doesn’t sound bad enough he goes in the morning! Yea, image giving up your beauty sleep for such a thing!)
