Yes, you read that correctly New York has officially added itself to the Gender Neutral Birth Certificate States, along
with 8 other States.
New York residents are now allowed to change their gender officially on their birth certificate. Now when the child is born the parent(s) have three options M (male), F (female), or X (gender neutral). A person is allowed to change their birth certificate without parental permission at age 18.
“It is important that young people be empowered to explore their identities in a manner that is relevant to them,” Sklarz said.
