Kyrsten Sinema won the AZ Senate election to replace retiring Senator Jeff Flake, defeating Republican nominee Martha McSally. Sinema’s victory made her the first female Senator-elect from Arizona and the first openly bisexual person to win a U.S. Senate seat.

The mystery of who killed Isabel Celis was uncovered. At age 6, she disappeared in April 2012. Two years later, 13-year-old Maribel Gonzales disappeared. Christopher Clements, a registered sex offender, was indicted, and her father’s name was finally cleared.

No state in the country had cut school funding more than Arizona. Between 2008 and 2015, state lawmakers cut per-student funding by 36.6 percent. So Arizona educators walked out for six days. The governor signed an education funding bill that will provide for a range of salary increases, averaging around 10%, and increases funding for new textbooks, upgraded technology, and infrastructure.

The U of A assaults recently happened about a month ago. Two female U of A students reported assaults that happened near the campus. The two incidents were reported separately, one being on November 5th and the other on November 15th. Both girls were safe and managed to escape.

Tucson Police have arrested the stepfather of 13-year-old Jayden Glomb, Joshua Lelevier. He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and abandoning/concealing a dead body. The cause of death was asphyxiation. Jayden’s family stated, “We appreciate the love and compassion of everyone who has surrounded Jessica Lelevier, Robert Glomb, and their families following the loss of their daughter.”

The suspects who were involved in the Lakeside shooting have been arrested. Police were able to identify 15-year-old Filomeno Edwardo Flores, 16-year-old Maki Dion Riley, and 16-year-old Aaron Rodriguez as the suspects who murdered 21-year-old Matthew Favela, 16-year-old Carlos Ross, and 16-year-old Amonn Sandoval. On November 30, 2018, Flores turned himself in to the TPD Headquarters. On December 4, 2018, Homicide Detectives located and arrested Riley in the 7100 block of East 22nd Street. On December 5, 2018, Homicide Detectives located and arrested Rodriguez in the 7900 block of East Broadway Boulevard.

U.S. Marshall Chase White, 41, was also an Air Force reservist who was preparing for a three-year deployment. He was the first deputy U.S. marshal killed in the line of duty in Tucson in 66 years. White was shot and killed Nov. 29 while serving a felony warrant at a home on Tucson’s north side. Lynnda White stated, “I’ve been privileged to know him his entire life. He’s my heart.”
