Dog Care 101
December 6, 2018
Did you known that a lot of food and dog treats that you give your dog is really bad for them and most products that are sold at stores don’t work? If you have a dog, then this article is a must-read for you.
We all love our canine pals. Sometimes, we love them so much that we want to share scraps and bits of our own food with them. But, there are lots of different foods that are not only not good for them, but can actually hurt them. Even foods like different types of meats, fruits, and vegetables can cause severe health problems. Here’s a list of a few foods that you SHOULD NOT feed you dog.
1.) Milk and Dairy – Pets don’t have the enzyme that breaks down lactose in dairy, this can cause diarrhea and “other digestive upset.” (ice cream, yogurt, cheese, etc.)
2.) Nuts –
Nuts has a lot of oils and fats that are not good for pets. Nuts like almonds, pecans, and walnuts can cause diarrhea, vomiting and pancreatitis.
3.) Types of Vegetables – Dangerous vegetables to feed you pets are garlic, chives, and onions. Garlic is considered to be about five times as toxic as onions for dogs. These vegetables can cause gastrointestinal irritation and can also cause red blood cell damage.
4.) Raw or Under-Cooked Foods – Raw or under-cooked meals like raw meats and raw eggs can contain really bad bacteria that are harmful to the pet and humans. After you eat meat or chicken, you usually give the bone to your dog…DON’T DO THAT!! If your dog is eating a bone, she/he can get a splinter from breaking the bone and can choke on the bone.
5.) Grapes and Raisins – these contain an unknown substance that is toxic to pets. If you feed you pets grapes or raisins it maybe lead them to have kidney failure. Knowing that the toxic substance is unknown, its best to have your pets avoiding grapes and raisins.
6.) Last but not least, Alcohol, Coffee, and Caffeine – Coffee and caffeine contains a substances called methylxanthines, founded in cacao seed, chocolate, the fruit that makes coffee, and extracts that are used in soda. Methylxathines causes your pet to vomit, have diarrhea, experience “panting, excessive thirst and urination, hyperactivity, abnormal heart rhythm, tremors, seizures and even death.” Alcohol can cause “vomiting, diarrhea, decreased coordination, central nervous system depression, difficulty breathing, tremors, abnormal blood acidity, coma and even death.”
Another thing about pets is that most of the shampoos marketed as flea and tick prevention don’t actually work. Shampoos to get rid of fleas are temporary. If you see an ingredient in shampoos called pyrethrin DON’T USE IT!! Pyrethrin is a toxic substance that can KILL cats. If you have a pet with fleas, Frontline Pets treatment and a prevention to get rid of fleas and ticks.
So think twice before giving your pets human food and look at what ingredients you are washing pets with.
