After six days of ballot counting, it is official that Kyrsten Sinema is Arizona’s first Democratic senator in twenty-three years. But that isn’t all of the history Senator Sinema has made just by being elected. Kyrsten Sinema is also Arizona’s first female senator, she’s only the second openly LGBT person elected to the Senate, joining Tammy Baldwin, a Democrat from Wisconsin and a lesbian, but more importantly, America’s first ever bisexual senator.

The Democratic senator narrowly defeated Martha McSally in replacing retired senator Jeff Flake. The nail-biting race was cut close by about 2%. The victory is very important for Arizona considering a Bisexual Democrat got elected into a state that voted for President Trump, who is a Republican.

Kyrsten Sinema was previously a U.S. Representative for Arizona’s 9th congressional district from 2013 to 2018.
