The judge had no choice but to drop the child abuse charges against Lucas Morton, Hujrah Wahhaj, and Subhannah Wahhaj and let the suspects go freely because the prosecutors violated the state’s 10-day rule. The 5 adults were going to be charged with multiple charges of child abuse. A child’s remains were found on the property.

Sarah Backus, a judge from the case, said that there was no evidence presented in court that the firearms they got to arm the children were illegally possessed. Hopefully, the 3 suspects that got off from the trial will be convicted for their crimes in the future and justice will be served. In a update, prosecutors plan to bring a new case before a grand jury September 27 against all 5 suspects; 1 of the suspects, Jany Leveille, a Haitian immigrant, for being in the U.S. illegally and being in possession of firearms and the rest of the 4, including the ones released, are being prosecuted for aiding and abetting Leveille. The suspects were initially arrested and charged with child abuse offenses after authorities raided the compound on August 3 and found starving children.
