Trump Sends Military To Border Until Wall Is Built
April 9, 2018
Today, President Trump announced his plan to deploy troops along the U.S.-Mexico border until the border wall is built. While this is not the first time that there has been talk about sending troops to the border (In 2010, the Obama Administration deployed 1200 National Guard troops to the border as part of a border protection plan, and George W. Bush constructed nearly 1000 metal barriers to keep illegal immigrants out), Trump said “Until we can have a wall and proper security, we’re going to be guarding our border with the military. That’s a big step. We really haven’t done that before, or certainly not very much before.”
Trump has privately been communicating with Mexico about the construction on the wall. Trump also said today that a caravan of migrants from Central America are moving through Mexico to request asylum once they make it to the U.S. border. Trump said that Mexico has to do something about these caravans because he is not letting them in.
