Going green – it’s a phrase that’s becoming more and more common as people start to realize the enormity of the environmental challenges we all face. The earth is in trouble: every day we read new stories about climate change, uncontrollable wildfires, or animals dying. But what can you actually do to help?

A good start is to save some trees. Sahuaro is starting a Go Green program that you can sign up for online through ParentVue. The idea is that we want to reduce paper waste by emailing out progress reports and quarter and semester report cards, rather than sending out a letter every four and a half weeks. Sahuaro spends approximately $6,000 a year on printing and envelopes for report cards alone, so signing up for this program could save money for something more important, such as new books.

“We are looking for ways to reduce paper,” said principal Estrella, as report cards are sent out eight times a year, which wracks up thousands of dollars a year. However, Estrella was sure to mention that this is only an option, so if people prefer paper or don’t have access to the internet, they can continue to get the physical copies of report cards. If you would like to opt in, visit ParentVue (student.tusd1.org) and select “Go Paperless!!” in your account.
