2017 Sports in Review
December 13, 2017
2017 has definitely been a crazy year for the world of sports…
Starting off with this year’s Australian Open and Serena Williams, who, may I remind you was pregnant at the time as well, beat out her sister, Venus Williams, in the finals for the number one spot. Williams took a couple of videos while holding up the 2017 trophy and saying, as she rubbed her stomach, “This is the one we won together! Yay!”
Next is the 51st Super Bowl with the New England Patriots coming out on top over the Atlanta Falcons with the final game ending with a score of 34-28. This is the fifth Super Bowl championship the Patriots have taken home. No team had overcome more than a 10-point deficit in Super Bowl history. The Patriots trailed this game 28-3 in the second quarter, then scored 31 unanswered points.
As well as the World Baseball Classic, which involved team USA and team Puerto Rico in the finals. In a final game sweep 8-0 team USA got to take the win home. Since this competition is set to happen every 4 years, the next World Baseball Classic is set to happen in 2021.
The Big MMA fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor was highly publicized. “The Biggest Fight in Combat Sports History”was a professional boxing match between undefeated eleven-time five-division boxing world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. and two-division mixed martial arts (MMA) world champion and at-the-time current UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor. As you all probably know, The Money Team aka Floyd Mayweather did indeed beat McGregor in the 10th round with a technical knock out.
This year’s World Series between the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers was a very close series. The series was a constant back and forth match, with one of the games played being one of the longest in history, but the Astros essentially won in game 7 with the score being 5-1.
