We all have siblings, and we don’t always get along with them, but imagine having three other siblings the same age as you. Susy, Luly, Devan, and Shea Heslep are quadruplets who go to Sahuaro. They are all juniors and all play basketball. Luly Heslep is the oldest by 3 minutes before her brothers and 1 minute before her sister.

When I asked each of them what they all have in common, they replied they are all tall, love to play basketball, live in the same house, and like to hang out with each other. Shea Heslep reported, “We are all pretty skinny and all like the U of A.”

I asked each of them individually what it was like to be a quadruplet and each of them had different answers. Susy said, “It’s fun. They are always there for you when you are going through something. You get to see them everyday and you are never lonely.” Luly reported, “It’s pretty nice but hard at times. For our birthday we get a huge cake. Sometimes it can be annoying and we don’t get along, but it is worth it in the long run.” Devan and Shea both stated, “It is kind of cool. Other times it can be annoying.”

Shea and Devan feel they are closer to each other than they are to their sisters. Shea reported, “We share the same room and we talk about things that we wouldn’t with our sisters.” Susy and Luly feel closer to one another because they were born closer together and know each other’s problems. They connect on things, say the same things at the same time, and dress the same.

When I asked Shea what it was like for his parents to raise four kids, he stated, “It was very stressful. They did not get much sleep.”

Devan and Shea’s favorite memory is when they all went to Disneyland because it was pretty fun. Susy’s favorite memory is when they play together at club basketball. They started playing at a Jewish Community Center around 3rd grade. Luly’s favorite memory is when they took a cruise together.

Luly said, “Having brothers and sisters is like having friends that are always there for you.”
