9/11: We Will Remember
September 21, 2017
On Monday, Principal Estrella came over the loudspeaker during homeroom and asked that everyone take a moment of silence to honor the victims of the attack on September 11th, 2001. Many freshmen and sophomores were not even born when the attacks happened, but the sentiment still remains. At 8:45 a.m., the first of the Twin Tower buildings was hit. In total, four planes were hijacked; two crashed into the World Trade Center, one into the Pentagon, and one was taken over by the passengers and crashed in a field. Including the 19 terrorists, 2,996 people lost their lives on that day. As a country, we are still recovering. Since then, airport security has gotten much more strict, lowering the likelihood of a repeat attack significantly. To commemorate the attacks, the 9/11 Memorial and Museum paid tribute with their annual ceremony for firefighters, family, and the general public.
This tragedy will never be forgotten, but we as a country have grown stronger since.
