A total solar eclipse can be seen on Monday, August 21, 2017 for the first time in 26 years. Sahuaro High School students will be able to view this phenomenon between 2nd and 3rd period (9:16 am -10:39 am) if they have a signed permission form and the correct eye wear. Ms. Savoie, Earth Science teacher, has invited every teacher to bring their students to view the eclipse as long as they wear the correct eye wear.

The Eclipse will start around 9:16, it will peak around 10:39 and it will end at 12:03. This viewing will be on the football field. Even though the moon will be covering the sun, it will still harm the eyes if one were to stare at it for a long period of time. Make sure to get the actual Solar Eclipse glasses; regular sunglasses won’t be able to protect your eyes from the harmful sun rays. At Lowes they will be selling these glasses for about $2. You all should head out and buy a pair to witness this “Great American Total Solar Eclipse”. (www.space.com)

This Eclipse is special because “it has been 26 years since an eclipse path has passed over so much of the USA”( arizona.edu) and it’s a total Solar Eclipse, which means that the new moon will pass between the Sun and the Earth and it will cast the darkest part of it’s shadow on Earth. A total Solar Eclipse won’t be visible again in the U.S until 2024 ; another thing that makes this Eclipse special is that it will only be visible in the United States. Some say that this Eclipse will also bring a huge change in your life and if you’re a Leo or an Aquarius this Eclipse will have more of an effect on your horoscope. So go out this Monday and enjoy this phenomenon.
