North Carolina Takes The W
April 4, 2017
The March Madness craziness finally led up to the nail-biting race between No. 1 seeds Gonzaga and North Carolina, with North Carolina taking home the win. For the first time ever, Arizona was the host of the 2017 championship, with the average price of attendance being $536 due to the high demand.
The North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball fought a close battle the entirety of the game but avenged the title with a 71-65 score. This is U.N.C.’s 6th National Championship and was Gonzaga’s first-time appearance being in the Final Four. North Carolina lost the national title game to Villanova last year but jumped for joy in confetti this year at the University of Phoenix Stadium.
The North Carolina Team includes Head Coach Roy Williams, Justin Jackson (F/G), Theo Pinson (F/G), and Nate Britt (G). After suffering the devastation that was losing the national title last year, the boys came together as a team seeking redemption. Although they denied pursuits of revenge, The New York Times stated the boys had a group chat entitled “Redemption.”
“It was an ugly game,” said North Carolina Coach Roy Williams, “I don’t think either team played well offensively. The magnitude of the game had a lot to do with it.” The game as a whole was a restless match, with the score constantly swaying for both sides. During the second half, the Tar Heels came back more focused and were able to take home the win.
