Habitat For Humanity Tucson
Habitat For Humanity is a group that builds houses for people who may not be able to afford housing. Volunteering for the organization is a great way to gain more community service hours. In order to be a volunteer, you must be 16 years or older. Volunteer opportunities includes actually building houses, customer service at the HabiStore (which sells home improvement materials and equipment to the public), or even helping specific families in getting a home through the group. Pima County Teen Court
The Pima County Teen Court has a variety of options to get involved. The court is an alternative for teens who don’t want want to go through the juvenile justice system. The court is almost entirely run by high school students, and is a good way to get a taste of what a courtroom is like. Opportunities include being a jury, clerk (the person who supervises the room setup), and even acting as an attorney for a case. Carondelet Hospital Network Volunteering
The two hospitals in the Carondelet Hospital Network (St. Joseph’s and St. Mary’s Hospitals) offer volunteering for high school students. As a volunteer, you get to direct patients, answer phone calls, file papers, and more. You must apply in order to become a volunteer. If you want a taste of working in a hospital, or if you want to help sick people, volunteering through the hospital is a great way to help.
