Woman Gives Birth For a Second Time at Age 64
February 22, 2017
A woman in Burgos, Spain has given birth to twins, one boy, and one girl, at the outstanding age of 64. She gave birth by C-section and both herself and both babies are in good health.
This is not her first child – she had her first child at the age of 58. 600 babies were born to women between 50 and 54-years old in 2012. Fertility seems impossible at this age, but the woman who has only been identified by her initials, M.I.A. , had gone through IVF treatment in the United States. With the percentages against her odds, it still worked out. On average, IVF has a success rate of around 33 % per embryo transferred for women under 35 years old, and she was almost double the age.
Although she was able to have children, it might have not been in the best interest of the children. Her first daughter has been in custody because she had not attended school and was not attended to properly. Although there has not been a set age to stop treating women with IVF, experts say that there are higher risks after the age of 50.
