The Australian Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, and the POTUS, Donald Trump, had a very intense disagreement over a deal about refugees. This deal was made under the Obama Administration, stating that the U.S. would accept an indefinite number of refugees that are currently in offshore detention centers in Australia. These detention centers are essentially places where people without valid visas or citizenship are detained. These centers also oftentimes include refugees; however, since most of the time they are coming by boat they are considered illegal immigrants.

This is also where the disagreement happened between Trump and Turnbull over a phone call. Trump disagreed with this deal and did not want to follow through with accepting the refugees. He said that it was a very terrible deal that would be very harmful, and that “one of them would be the next Boston bomber.” In fact, he tweeted: “Do you believe it? The Obama administration agreed to take thousands of illegal immigrants from Australia. Why? I will study this dumb deal!” soon after the phone call. Turnbull however, declined to comment on the call. Despite his disagreement, the U.S. will still honor the agreement that was made, but the refugees will go through “extreme vetting.”
