2017’s Most Anticipated Films

  • I don’t need to even explain why this movie is gonna be so good. After the immense success of The Force Awakens, almost everyone can’t wait to see what’s next for our beloved new characters, and our old favorites. Amazingly enough, Carrie Fisher (R.I.P.) finished all her scenes before her passing, and Princess/General Leia will be a part of The Last Jedi. In theaters December 17th.

  • I know we all saw this coming, because Guardians of the Galaxy is the best superhero movie of all time, end of story. Joined by a new character, Mantis, the gang will continue their space adventures, accompanied by what will most likely be the best soundtrack of 2017. In theaters May 5th.

  • The sequel no one thought was gonna happen, T2 Trainspotting follows as Renton (Ewan McGregor) reconnects with his gang of lowlifes, and they continue their life long misadventures. Danny Boyle (28 Days Later, Slumdog Millionaire) returns to direct 20 years later. In theaters March 17th.

  • 35 years after the original smash hit Blade Runner, Ryan Gosling takes the reins in Blade Runner 2049. Officer K (Gosling) searches for the long lost Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) and soon discovers a secret that could end the world as he knows it. In theaters October 6th.

  • Get Out is the directorial debut of Jordan Peele (of Key and Peele fame). Produced by Blumhouse, the company behind modern horror hits like Insidious, Sinister, The Purge, and Paranormal Activity, Get Out is an extremely original horror film confronting modern day racism in a direct and new way. In theaters February 24th, this is a movie I really can’t wait to see.

  • Brie Larson (Room), one of the best modern actresses (and the new Captain Marvel) stars in Free Fire, a retro crime comedy centering around a gun deal gone bad. Distributed by my personal favorite production company, A24, Free Fire is guaranteed to be a fun, hilarious, and excellently made movie. In theaters April 21st.

  • Another sequel we didn’t see coming, Alien: Covenant, directed by Ridley Scott (Alien, Thelma and Louise, Blade Runner), follows as a new crew of people, including Michael Fassbender and James Franco, stumble upon what seems to be a paradise, but is home to the deadliest creature in the universe. In theaters May 19th.

    '
  • Comedic genius Edgar Wright’s newest venture, Baby Driver, stars many familiar faces like, Ansel Elgort, Jamie Foxx, and Kevin Spacey. The writer/director of favorites like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Shaun of the Dead, and Hot Fuzz, takes on a more serious angle in this crime thriller that follows a young getaway driver as he gets caught up in a failing heist. In theaters August 11th.

New year, new movies! Sequels, sequels, and more sequels will be flooding theaters the whole year, but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Although 2017 so far seems like a flaming pile of garbage, at least we have some good movies to look forward to!
