La La Land is a Must-See
The musical La La Land has landed a record-tying 14 Oscar Nominations, enchanting even the driest of film critics. The film is a worthy showcase with a remarkable awakening of love with sound and color. It’s the story of two lovers who are hoping to make their dreams become reality.
As cliche as it sounds, the movie is able to depict the lovers’ lives in a unique manner, showing both the hardships of achieving the impossible and ending with the bittersweet reflections of just how time goes by. Mia (Emma Stone) serves lattes to famous movie stars, only hoping that one day the person ordering lattes will be her. Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) is a fervent lover of traditional jazz music, in hopes of opening his own jazz club to share with the world the passion behind the music.
After seeing this film not once, not twice, but three times, I have come to terms with the indescribable happiness this movie brings me. With it’s vintage aura and spontaneous moments of realism it’s a perfect combination to restore a belief in love and aspirations. In today’s day and age where musicals do not receive the glory as they did back then, this film is a perfect reminder to appreciate the music, the sound, and the overall feeling good choreography and production design can bring you.
