During the 88th Academy Awards on February, 28, Leonardo DiCaprio won the Best Actor award for the adventure thriller The Revenant directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. DiCaprio has been nominated for Best Actor five times prior to his win. His esteemed performances make this award a long awaited feat.
The Death of Vine
On October 27, Twitter, owner of the the beloved video based social networking site, Vine, announced the closure of the site in the following months. Although nothing has currently been taken off of the site, notifications will be made when the closure begins.
The Rise of Hamilton
Hamilton, the popular Broadway musical, composed and written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, received a record setting 16 nominations for the 70th Tony Awards on June 12. They received a near record setting amount of wins, 11, almost reaching the 12 award record set by The Producers in 2001.
Brangelina’s Break Up
Power couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have officially split as Jolie filed for divorce on September 19th. She cited “irreconcilable differences” that linked back to an incident on September 15th on the family’s private jet, where Pitt was allegedly verbally and physically abusive to their children. Pitt was cleared of the charges on November 9th.
