Sahuaro’s Soccer Uniforms Sent to Kenya

September 29, 2016

Sahuaro is a great school, academically, fine-arts wise, and even the clubs and sports makes Sahuaro a fantastic school. Sometimes, not even realizing it, we get too overwhelmed with what we have and don’t pay attention to other parts of the world that may not be as fortunate as us.  Maybe other schools can’t afford such great things, like host clubs or run sports, and maybe some schools can’t afford the instruments for a band, or maybe even equipment for sports.

As a “Be Kind” school, the students at Sahauro are generous enough to take pride in what they do and teach, reaching out to help other people in need; that is another reason why Sahuaro is a great school, because of the kind of people we have that makes a great community all around us. Thanks to soccer Coach Serafini, the soccer team is contributing to other countries as well.

Coach Serafini sent Sahuaro’s “gently used” soccer uniforms to Kenya a couple of months ago. Two of his soccer players were going to Kenya to help build a school with their church and their father asked him if he had any soccer jerseys. He discounted the jerseys and the warm up kits and sent them off to Kenya. Coach Serafini said he felt that it was a warm opportunity to do something special, he also mentioned that soccer (Futball) is very popular all around the world, and that he had no idea how happy the children felt about receiving the uniforms. I asked him why he sent them to Kenya specifically and he said because that was the destination in need. Tanque Verde Soccer Club donated jerseys to Kenya as well. He felt this was a heart-warming opportunity to do something helpful for another country, not only for the donation itself, but for the sport. You can’t really play a sport without representing who you play for.  Also it makes it easier for the fans to know who to cheer for, if they don’t know the name of the player, then go for the number of the player instead.

Perhaps others reading this article can follow Coach Serafini’s lead.  With so many in need, we can keep Sahuaro a “Be Kind” school through our contributions.
