The cover photo for the song is an aerial view of Drake’s mansion in Toronto. After its release, “Not Like Us” became a smash hit song, and on May 7th, 2024, it broke the record for the most single-day Spotify streams for a hip-hop song in the U.S. and is also competing for rap song of the year at next year’s Grammy Awards.

9. Please Please Please- Sabrina Carpenter. “Please Please Please” served as the second single from Carpenter’s latest album “Short n’ Sweet” and was released on June 6th, 2024. The song captures Sabrina’s mixed emotions about her relationship, wanting to value it while protecting her pride and conveying it in a semi-satirical pop song. “Please Please Please” debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Hot 100, yet rose to number one, becoming her first number-one single after a ten-year-long musical career. The track was recently nominated for multiple awards at the 2025 Grammy Music Awards.

8. Like Him (feat. Lola Young)- Tyler, The Creator. “Like Him” is a standout track off Tyler’s latest and highly anticipated album, “Chromakopia.” It is a touching song written about Tyler’s complicated relationship with his father. As the title suggests, he nods to not wanting to follow in his footsteps. The song’s ending reveals that his mother kept his father away from him the whole time; Tyler hopes his father isn’t a bad person. The song debuted at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and became a favorite among fans.

7. 365 – Charli xcx. “365” is the final track of Charli’s record-breaking and extreamly influential album, “BRAT.” It mirrors the first track “360”, creating a never-ending experience for the album. “365” is a song that will immediately pick you up, partying all 365 days of the year.

6. BIRDS OF A FEATHER – Billie Eilish. Billie and her brother, Finneas O’Connell collaborated on the track and described the song as a deep exploration of the overwhelming emotion tied to the attachment of commitment. “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” is off of Billie’s recent and Grammy-nominated album, “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT.” Billie sings about a powerful connection that stays strong through the challenges of life.

5. 28 – Zach Bryan. “28” is a country ballad that originally debuted on April 11th, 2024. Zach Bryan has been topping the charts in recent years with 23 of his songs making the top ten of billboard, 3 of which hit number one. Bryan said he wrote the song because he, “felt like the luckiest man on the planet.”

Juna – Clairo. “Juna” has quickly become a favorite of many, off of Clairo’s most recent album “Charm.” She sings about having a deep level of connection with somebody to the point that everything becomes instinct. In the soft, airy, and vintage sounding track, Clairo even utilizes a mouth trumpet.

3. we can’t be friends (wait for your love) – Ariana Grande. After four long years of waiting, Grande finally released her album “Eternal Sunshine.” “we can’t be friends (wait for your love)” is track ten and the second single off the record, with an accompanying music video resembling one of Ariana’s favorite movies, “Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind.” On the meaning of the song Ariana said, “They all sort of interpret it a little bit differently which I love about that song because I think it can be applied to any kind of relationship.”

2. How Did It End?- Taylor Swift. This song from Taylor offers an often untold perspective on relationships. It reflects the experience of people only caring about you after the relationship ends, and always interrogating you when you’re at your lowest. “How Did It End?” features some of Taylor’s peak lyricism including, “How the death rattle breathing silenced as the soul was leaving, the deflation of our dreaming leaving me bereft and reeling…”

Mason King, Reporter
Mason is a senior, new to The Paper Cut, which he joined out of a love of writing and taking photos. He also serves as treasurer of the school's book club, which he has been actively involved in since his sophomore year. After high school Mason would like to attend Northern Arizona University (NAU) and go into the medical field.
Music has always been important to him; you'll always find Mason listening to music, and he is currently working on learning the piano. He is a big collector of things, including vinyl records, of which he owns more than one hundred and fifty. Reading is very significant to Mason. So far this year, he has read around forty books - each has a detailed review on his notes app.
Family is vital to Mason and he tries to spend as much time with them as possible. He has a younger sister who is his favorite person in the world. He has eight pets including two cats, a dog, three turtles, and two ferrets named Kiwi and Miso. Every April, Mason and his family travel to Puerto Peñasco, Mexico, which he looks forward to all year. He also loves to be outdoors, whether it's a stroll on the beach, going for a walk around his neighborhood, or spending time up on snowy Mt. Lemmon. He also enjoys taking photos, especially of the sunset, stars, his cats, and nature. Mason dreams of traveling all across Europe in the future. He's excited to try new things, live his senior year to the fullest, and be a part of The Paper Cut.
