Sahuaro’s annual door-decorating contest brought out the creative side of un-Scroogy here. From intricate designs expanding beyond the door to simple designs that bring the winter spirit, the halls looked festive as teachers showcased their doors! Unlike last year, the doors were judged by a committee in Student Council and given a place.
In third place, Ms. Gallego. Her door had a Hogwarts theme with a fireplace that popped out where stockings representing each house were hung. The Sorting Hat, Hedwig, and Dobby the House Elf stood out in this design. Congratulations!
In second place, Mrs. Dara. Her door featured a design that went beyond the confines of the door, transforming the hallway into Whoville. With gift boxes, a cutout of Cindy Lou Who, curtains, and a snowy winter scene in the window, her door brought the spirit. Congratulations!
In first place, drumroll, please……… Mr. Alan! His door featured an intricate display that moved! Similarly to Mrs. Dara, he used a box in the window to create a winter wonderland. Wrapped in paper, with signs boasting “Merry Christmas” his door brought cheer to the upper 200s. His design also featured a fabulous Grinch that used fear tactics to win the votes. Congratulations!
Here are the other festive displays that can be seen around the school!
Ms. Tuli’s door was filled with characters drawn by her students; Ms. Good’s door was decorated with the Grinch; Ms. Moyer’s had a super sweet door; and Mr. Rio’s door had festive characters!
Ms. Lange’s door featured a naughty list of her students decorated with snowflakes made out of late passes; Mrs. Chernow’s door allowed students to stop and add their Christmas wishlist on her door, which you could spend hours looking at; and Mr. Smith’s shiny door had cutouts of characters and festive foliage!
The lower 300 hall brought even more festive cheer with more Grinch-themed doors, a Nightmare Before Christmas door, a candy cane-striped door, and a Cougar resting among the northern lights.
More designs included a wintery fireplace; a snowman; Pharmacy’s medicinal masterpieces that use pill bottles; and Mrs. Knippen’s door featuring the artist behind the drawings!
This outside 400 door features the jolliest Santa that will bring joy to everyone walking around; Mr. Hemmo’s door is wrapped in red; and in true Mr. Rogers fashion, his Frosty the Snowman door is wearing a Chargers hat!
The upper 100s had a fluffy abominable snowman repping the UofA on a Santa hat, and wishing students a Merry Christmas in Spanish; Another super cute Santa asked the question, “Do you want to take a selfie with me?” in French and English, and featured teachers from the 100 hallway dressed as elves; and the College and Career Center was decorated for the season as well!
In lower 100, Mr. Lopez decorated with a great under-the-sea Spongebob theme; Mrs. Trujillo’s door was a beautifully wrapped gift with a bow from Santa; and in the office, Mr. Haynes had a modern Grinch door- a favorite character among Sahuaro staff; Mrs. Bradley put up festive red and green decor around her door; and in the fine arts hallway, Mr. Younggren’s door stood out with the Christmas flair.
Finally, the library donned an intricate design of characters from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Jack and Sally were the tallest reaching the top of their windows, and the middle window featured the mountain scene with a snowy view!
Check out all of the beautiful doors, or should I say canvases, around the halls of Sahuaro. They might bring you some holiday cheer!
