On December 10th, girls’ varsity basketball played their ninth game of the 24-25 season. The first half was aggressive and inconsistent on our part, starting with a close first quarter for both teams. No one could make their shots, so driving to the basket seemed to be the best option. Sahuaro had many turnovers as well, but the best part about our girls’ basketball team is that they are very resilient and will not give up, therefore causing the number of turnovers to go down tremendously.
It was a great game to watch though, with the score going back and forth until the end of the third quarter. However, there was a sudden scoring run for Catalina, making it hard for our Lady Cougars to catch up, and unfortunately, resulting in a 45-34 loss for Sahuaro.
Senior Carly Coolidge said, “I think we played well but I think we have a lot to work on as a team and we need lock in right as we get on the court.”
Sahuaro lost despite a true team effort on offense – senior Maggie Boyd shined and scored nine points and six rebounds. Senior Dazmyne Gambrell was the second lead scorer, who had six points and six rebounds.
Sophomore Harmony Twito said, “I feel we are there we just need to talk and understand what to do in that exact moment. We just need to come together and make a play as a team because we need to win.” Though losing isn’t ideal, learning from the mistakes made on the court will make our girl’s varsity basketball team better and lead them to more victory in the future.
