Taiwan’s Defense Ministry said on 12/10/24 that they had detected over a dozen Chinese naval ships and 47 military planes in the past 24 hours but no life-threatening fire exercises as in previous military exercises. The deployment covers a past area of the island.

China’s military has not yet confirmed or denied its deployment of warships or whether it is carrying out a military exercise.

Lt. Gen. Hsieh Jih-sheng said “China’s navy is creating two walls — one at Taiwan’s perimeter and another outside the first island chain, which extends south from Japan and through Taiwan to the Philippines. ” This is concerning as China has never done this before and this could be China sending the language that ” Taiwan is ours”

The Taiwanese government  has been bracing for possible invasion for decades as China claims Taiwan is a part of its territory XI has vowed reunification with Taiwan “(We must) resolutely oppose ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist activities,”

China claims Taiwan is part of its territory and opposes self-governing of the island and having official interactions with other countries and in particular the United States.  While the U.S. does not recognize Taiwan as a country, it is the largest supplier of weapons to the island, and President Biden has vowed to defend Taiwan from a Chinese invasion.
