Freshman Mykle Deitz is often described as fun, ambitious, and exciting – and with his future dreams of being a football player in the NFL, he definitely fits the description. Mykle has backup plans too, though – if professional football player doesn’t work out, he wants to become either a barber or be an entrepreneur.
Mykle plays for Sahuaro’s junior varsity football team as both safety and wide receiver, and enjoys being in charge of calling the plays. His inspiration to play football comes from watching it throughout his life. He saw how tough of a sport it was and decided that was what he wanted to do.
For Mykle, his football team is like one big family – which he loves, and he looks at his teammates as brothers. Mykle said that his current goals for the football season are, “For our team to be the best we can. A personal goal is to learn from the older guys and get a couple interceptions.”
Before football, Mykle played both soccer and baseball. He plans to participate in soccer and try something new and will be a part of track and field during the spring. Outside of athletics, Mykle also enjoys attending legal takeovers throughout the city. He likes attending these takeovers with his older friends and even though he can’t drive, he enjoys watching from the sidelines.
Mykle is not a huge fan of school in general, but he finds English to be the most bearable subject. Time management is one of his main academic obstacles, and it affects every student similarly. Staying on top of academics while keeping up with sports all at once can be stressful, but he manages to keep both worlds balanced by staying organized.
Mykle keeps himself motivated by trying not to think too much about the future and focus on living in the moment. He tries not to get ahead of himself to avoid stress and overthinking. Although he feels his high school experience has been manageable, he wishes he had some sort of guidance from an upperclassman.
His life motto, he claims, is “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” On the field and off, Mykle Deitz is passionate and looks forward to the next couple of years at Sahuaro High School.
