Senior Carly Coolidge has been playing on Sahuaro’s volleyball, basketball, and tennis teams all four years of her high school career. She is an extraordinary athlete, participating on varsity for all three teams. Carly is well known around the school for staying busy and active, and as the vice president of Student Council, Carly can often be found doing sales, planning events, and running pep rallies. This year is only getting started and Carly is ready to take it head-on and make the most of her senior year.
Carly was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, and lives with her mom, sister, and dog, Pippa. Her sister Cassandra Coolidge is an alumnus at Sahuaro who participated in several sports and Student Council, just like Carly. Carly’s mom is very involved in her life and encourages her to branch out and try new things. Her mother was also very involved in sports in high school, which influenced Carly’s choice to do sports at the start of her career at Sahuaro.
Carly was a part of a club basketball team she started her freshman year called TNT (The Next Tier). In club, her skills, aggressiveness, and basketball IQ improved tremendously because of how they trained and practiced with guys on the club team. However, she stopped playing after an unfortunate incident, where she tore her ACL during basketball her sophomore year. But, that did not stop her; she persevered through rigorous physical therapy until she was able to play again. Carly said, “I don’t plan on playing for TNT again but I am very excited for my senior season for school basketball.”
Carly bounced back quickly from her injury and was able to play volleyball, basketball, and tennis for part of her junior year. Her knowledge of volleyball and her athletic abilities are helping her play in her senior year. Carly said, “I’m very rusty but I’m ready to get back to it and renew my skills.” The practice Carly put in this summer for basketball and the ongoing open gyms are what will help her in basketball this year. Carly plays tennis because her mom played in high school and she taught her what she knows. She got trained at Reffkin Tennis Center and she used to go to the park with her mom and play tennis, which greatly improved her skills. All these sports that Carly plays have shaped her into the person she is today. She is ready for this senior season which will be a good one.
