10 things That Make Me Happy

Visiting California is always a highlight. It’s such a great change from the Tucson weather. Although I don’t love sand, the ocean and sky are beautiful. I always make the best memories there – I even got to go with my boyfriend last year. Nothing better than the beach and Disneyland after a long year at school. For me, it’s the best reward you could get. I’m planning another trip there after graduation this year because let’s be honest – finals take a toll on all of us.

Museums make me happy because I love learning new things. History is my favorite subject in school and nothing is more interesting to me. It’s like being engulfed in a whole other world. Seeing and learning about the things from our past or the greatest world records. Every time I travel I make the goal to see one new museum and learn something new. I love the beautiful and fascinating part of our past and learning everything there is about them.

My guitars make me happy because it’s an escape. I’ve been playing guitar since I was 11 years old. My grandpa taught me to play and I love the memories I have with him. playing guitar always feels like an escape from the outside world. I can’t feel anything but adrenalin and joy. Playing guitar has always been a passion for me.

Going to concerts makes me happy. I always go with my mom to concerts and we have a lot of fun. The memories I have of going to concerts with my mom I think about constantly. It is the most fun we have with each other because we both love music and the experience. There’s nothing like the energy you get at a concert and the adrenaline afterward. The experience of hearing new music and seeing it played live is the best feeling for me.

Camping makes me happy because it’s something I’ve always done with my grandparents. Camping was my favorite part of summer. I love being out in the woods where it’s quiet and peaceful. I’m not too fond of the city and all of its noise so camping always feels so therapeutic for me. My grandparents, especially my grandfather, love camping and I’ve made the best memories with them.

Visiting my grandparents’ dogs makes me happy. I feel nothing but joy when I play with them—their names and Tiny and Tilly. Tiny has been my best friend since fifth grade. They love to play and always brighten my mood. There’s nothing I’d rather do than play with them. They’re the best part of my weekend. How could anyone feel anything but joy around two sweet-loving dogs?

Drawing makes me happy because I find it very relaxing. My dad taught me how to draw when I was a kid. I always aimed to impress him with my drawings and still do now. drawing makes me think of my dad and all the good memories we had. My passion for art comes from him and his love for it.

Tattoos make me happy because I love the form of art and the meaning behind them. I got my first tattoo when I was sixteen. This tattoo always makes me happy because it’s a memorial for my dad, who loved getting tattoos. I would love to get more meaningful tattoos in the future. I enjoy drawing them myself to make them more personal. Drawing my tattoos makes them just that much more special.

Makeup makes me happy because I love being able to express myself in all different ways. I enjoy experimenting with new looks and colors. It’s a whole different form of art that I do almost every single day. Makeup for me is not about improving looks but about making you look the same way you feel.

Photography makes me happy. I’ve met the most amazing friends and even my boyfriend during photo shoots. Photography has opened up a lot of doors for me personally and academically. Taking pictures is my favorite hobby and has been a therapy for me. This picture was taken in California over the summer and my old photography teacher let me take her camera with me.

Cayle Callahan is seventeen years old and a senior at Sahuaro High School. Her favorite types of music to listen to are rock and country. Before joining The Paper Cut she worked on the yearbook; she chose journalism because she loves photography and writing. In yearbook, she mostly took pictures, her best being for football and wrestling. In previous years she also has taken art, sociology, and music classes. Cayle has a great appreciation for all types of art and writing, finding them a very important part of one's everyday life.
