On Thursday November 5th, Sahuaro girls volleyball team went head-to-head with Empire High in their last regular season match. This night also happened to be Senior Night, a night where we recognize the 3 seniors who’ve made it through the 2020 season despite all the setbacks. Tiana Cook, senior and 3 year varsity volleyball player, Kailee Lumadue also a 3 year varsity volleyball player, and lastly Gianni Martinez a first year varsity volleyball player, all were recognized by their amazing team and coach: Chris Wharam. It truly was a night to remember and all made possible  thanks to our brilliant staff who allowed our season to continue.

Throughout her 3 years on varsity, Tiana Cook was able to create bonds with the upperclassman and overall, “had a great experience!” As for senior night it was very emotional and she goes on to say how, “it was my last game at Sahuaro and I’d never think my last game would have to be the way it was because of COVID,” however, “I am forever grateful to have such a good team to end my last season with.”

Kailee Lumadue, who’s been with the varsity team since sophomore year, said that senior night, “was pretty bittersweet because I don’t get to play volleyball with my friends anymore,” although because of our friendship over the years, “we can always keep in touch.”

Lastly for me, my expereinces here at Sahuaro have been great; since freshman year I can remember our first game and how excited we were to be playing volleyball. I’ll cherish those days forever. Senior night was amazing, even through COVID and wearing a mask at every match, it’ll never compare to the memories made here. Thank you class of 2021 and thanks to the team, coaches, and staff who made everything possible this season!
