Musical artist Jacob Adam Kulick, who goes by Kulick, is a 28-year-old Pennsylvanian who began his solo music journey in 2017. Kulick is a small alternative/indie band that was introduced to me when I saw Andy Black live in Phoenix. He brought energy and music that didn’t sound amateuristic at all, and that caught my attention. He released an album recently titled Yelling in a Quiet Neighborhood on October 16th, 2020. The single Scatterbrain  and EP Hydroplane reeled me in, and YIAQN has kept me to stay.

The singles in this album include Talking to the Ceiling and Rope. I heard Talking to the Ceiling first and that song instantly became one of my favorites, which I don’t take lightly. I really feel as if that song captured everything I’ve been feeling and going through in 2020, which spiked my interest and connection to it. Between that single and Rope, my excitement for the rest was astronomical.

Besides the quality of the music, an important thing for me is the connection of the song and the creator. If the song’s contents mean something to the artist, then that makes the song so much more to me. For example, the song Just Be Friends was “one of the most difficult songs I’ve ever written,” says Kulick, “It’s the conversation that signifies the end of a relationship. It’s when you’ve lost control of yourself and you don’t know how to handle losing someone that’s been by your side your whole life.”

The album definitely exceeded my expectations and satisfied me. So many of the songs are crazy relatable and I can feel them in my soul. Not only is Kulick’s voice beyond mesmerizing, but his lyrical creations are impressive and addictive. Some of my favorites from the album are Talking to the Ceiling, Fun!, and Monster. There are recurring themes of uncertainty, guilt, sadness, shame, love, remorse, and closure conveyed in each song. Not just conveyed, but strongly felt. If I had to rate this album out of 10, I’d give it an 9/10.
