Ronaldo Rape Case Reopened
January 14, 2019
Cristiano Ronaldo, the 33-year-old soccer superstar on Juventus, is being accused of rape by an American woman from Las Vegas named Kathryn Mayorga, a former model, and schoolteacher. It’s said that they met at a hotel in 2009, where Cristiano allegedly “raped” her. She said she has his sperm on her dress, so a medical exam had to be performed, which a warrant was needed for.
The case was reopened in August by request of Mayorga when she claimed that Mr. Ronaldo paid her hush money- $375,000 to be exact. “Mr. Ronaldo has always maintained, as he does today, that what occurred in Las Vegas in 2009 was consensual in nature, so it is not surprising that DNA would be present, nor that the police would make this very standard request as part of their investigation,” said Ronaldo’s attorney Peter S. Christiansen. The victim “did not provide detectives with the location of the incident or suspect description,” which led to the closing of the case in October of 2009.
On Twitter, Ronaldo said, “I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me. Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in. Keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense. My clear conscience will thereby allow me to wait with tranquility the results of any and all investigations.”
