Band Brings Home the Win

Sahuaro’s Marching Band, with their show entitled Alice, competed at Campo Verde High School on November 10th 2018 in the AzMBA Championships.
Assistant drum major and baritone player, Sean Pierce, is a senior at Sahuaro and said he and the other seniors are “leaving on a good note.” He feels as if the last run at Championships was the best run yet. Freshmen Lyndale Bondock said her first year in marching band was “better than expected” and that “all of the members are really friendly with each other.” Miles Guerrero, drum captain and senior at Sahuaro, saw great improvement this year; “The freshmen and leadership really changed it for us, and the show this year was enjoyable for the performers,” he said. He also mentioned how every time he walked off the field after a performance, he thought “Wow, that was actually good.” Junior Joaquin Cota is the clarinet section leader and he said that he “wasn’t ashamed to say ‘I’m in marching band’.”
They wrapped up their season scoring 9th out of 22 bands in their division, 1A, where they received their highest score of the year being 62.475 points. In General Effect Music, the band placed 14th with a score of 8.475. For General Effect Visual, they got a score of 9.15, putting them in 15th place. The total score for was 17.625 and in 15th place. Placing 9th in Music Individual, they got a score of 9.15. In Music Ensemble, they received a score of 9.90 and got 7th place. The total Music score was 19.05, placing them in 7th. In the category of Visual Individual, the band placed 8th and received a score of 6.10. For Visual Ensemble, they got a score of 6.05 and 10th place. Overall in Visual, the band got 10th place and a score of 12.15. In Auxiliary, they got 6.20 points and 15th place. In Percussion, their highest scoring category, they got 3rd place and a score of 7.45.
