Stan Lee: A Marvelous Man
November 15, 2018
Another star has fallen; Stan Lee passed away on Monday, November 12th, 2018 at Cedar’s Sinai Medical Center in California from pneumonia. To many, Stan Lee was “the embodiment of Marvel, if not comic books in general.” Even though he is physically gone, he will live on through the prominent characters he has sprung to life in countless films and comics. Stan “The Man” Lee devoted about 79 years of his time to Marvel and the many heroes that children look up to. He has engraved his legacy into our lives in one way or another.
Dozens of Marvel fans are heartbroken over his passing, including some celebrities such as Hugh Jackman who played Wolverine, Chris Evans who plays Captain America, Mark Ruffalo who plays the Hulk, and Chris Hemsworth who plays Thor. Even the U.S. Army made a tweet about his death: “Rest in peace, Soldier. Comic book creator @TheRealStanLee has passed away at the age of 95. Lee served in the #USArmy Signal Corps during WWII from 1942-1945. We are deeply grateful for his service to our country and for his tremendous support to servicemembers. #Excelsior!” Hugh Jackman said, “Let me just say to the family and to the legions of fans that I remember Stan as a true gentleman who had this glint in his eye…He’s a creative genius. He thought outside the box. He created a whole universe that changed the lives of many people, mine included,” and Chris Evans tweeted,”There will never be another Stan Lee. For decades he provided both young and old with adventure, escape, comfort, confidence, inspiration, strength, friendship and joy. He exuded love and kindness and will leave an indelible mark on so, so, so many lives. Excelsior!!”
Stan Lee was indeed a marvelous man and he lived a tremendous life; he once said, “I used to be embarrassed because I was just a comic-book writer while other people were building bridges or going on to medical careers. And then I began to realize: entertainment is one of the most important things in people’s lives. Without it they might go off the deep end. I feel that if you’re able to entertain people, you’re doing a good thing.” He will continue to live on in the Hulk, Loki, Deadpool, Ant Man, and so many other personalities he fabricated. May he rest peacefully, and Excelsior!
