Top Movies and Shows of 2017
December 14, 2017
The year 2017 seemed to be either a hit or miss with everyone, but one thing is for certain: this was a year filled with astonishing movies and shows to entertain us for hours. Here are just a few of the must-see’s in movies and television from this year.
Wonder Woman – On May 25, one of our favorite heroines of all time, Wonder Woman, was re-imagined on the big screen. Wonder Woman was portrayed by Gal Gadot, and people absolutely loved it. The movie was nominated for nine awards, and won three, including the Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Actress: Action/Adventure, Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Actor: Action/Adventure, and Teen Choice Award for Film – Choice Movie: Action Adventure. The sequel, Wonder Woman 2, is set to be released on November 1, 2019.
It – On the creepier side of the spectrum, the classic film, It, was recreated to be even more chilling than the original. In case you are unfamiliar with the film, it is about an evil clown that lives in a sewer and preys on children every 27 years. If you’re a sucker for the classics or want a scary film to watch on a Friday night, It just might be the frightening film for you.
Game of Thrones – The popular Game of Thrones TV show released its seventh season this year, and it had an overwhelmingly positive amount of reviews. After the shows initial release in 2011, it quickly gained thousands of fans and has only grown in popularity over the years. In case you’re out of the loop or want to know more about the show, it is essentially about different houses (families) trying to rise to the throne and stake their claim as king or queen. Throw in the mix of fire-breathing dragons, wolves, and incest, and you have an award-winning TV show – 252 awards to be exact.
Stranger Things – The amazing series Stranger Things finally released its long-awaited second season in October, and fans just ate it up. It’s no surprise that the show has received over 20 awards and 96 nominations; this sci-fi masterpiece is about a young boy named Will who goes missing with zero trace. Will’s friends, along with a handful of other characters, set out to find him, only to discover that he has been lost in another dimension, known as the “Upside Down.” The story takes place in the 1980’s and brings out a traditional 80’s horror movie vibe that makes the show even better.
Get Out – While you may have to reach pretty far back in your memory for this one, the award-winning film Get Out was all the rage after its release in February of this year. This fascinating story is about an African American man who goes on a seemingly peaceful getaway to the family home of his Caucasian girlfriend. Everything is fine, or at least as fine as it can be when meeting your girlfriend’s parents, until he notices that there are few things off about the family and their rather eerie servants. This film will keep you on edge and the twist is rather surprising. While I won’t give away the ending in case you have not seen it, lets just say that they aren’t as sweet and innocent as their smiles suggest.
